The Eid Edit: What to Wear for Eid
From a soft Anarkali to a festive saree — how to look elegant, comfortable and entirely yourself for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
Eid is the high point of the festive calendar: a morning of prayer, embraces and family, followed by visits, sweets and photographs shared for years. What you wear should feel special — and still stay comfortable for a whole long day.
Eid al-Fitr vs. Eid al-Adha
Eid al-Fitr ends the fasting month of Ramadan and is often celebrated in lighter, more playful tones — pastels, embroidery, flowing fabrics. Eid al-Adha coincides with the pilgrimage season and traditionally feels a touch more composed, with deeper colours and richer weaves. Neither forgives a stressful morning, so lay your outfit out the night before.
The easy classic: the Anarkali
An Anarkali flatters almost every shape, allows movement when you sit on the floor, and looks effortlessly festive in photos. For the morning, choose light cotton or georgette in powder, mint or ivory; for the evening rounds, silk with a gold border is lovely.
If you want a saree
A saree reads as celebratory at once. Reach for a light organza or georgette saree that drapes well without weighing you down. A contrasting blouse and understated gold jewellery are enough — the fabric tells the story.
Colours & fabrics that last
Powder tones, sage green, dusty rose and muted gold photograph beautifully and feel modern rather than overdone. Breathable fabrics are your best friends on a long Eid day — especially with cooking, dancing and children to carry.
Styling from morning to night
Keep daytime jewellery light and build it up in the evening. A second pair of flat shoes in your bag saves your feet after the mosque visit. And a well-fitted petticoat and a tested blouse decide the fit far more than any expensive piece.
